King Charles celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on May 8, 2026, with a special sketch displayed during a centenary event at Royal Albert Hall. The video, produced by BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, showed the King writing a birthday card from Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The sketch, called “A Very Special Delivery,” followed the birthday card as it traveled toward Attenborough. At first, a courtier and a border collie carried it by car, but a fallen tree blocked the road. Then, the dog continued carrying the present, and several animals helped along the way. A bird, squirrel, geese, otter, swan, fox, deer, and owl all lent a helping hand before the birthday card finally arrived through Attenborough’s mail slot.

David Attenborough was spotted laughing in the audience while holding the dirtied letter. “Over those decades, you have revealed the beauty and wonders of Nature to audiences around the world in new and marvellous ways. In so doing, you have shared my determination to highlight the urgent need to protect and preserve this precious planet of ours – and all Life on Earth – for future generations. Thank you, then, for all that you have done. And on behalf of the whole nation, I wish you a very happy 100th birthday,” the letter said with the “Charles R” signature.
