Kang Daniel wins appeal in $510,000 damages against Genie Music

Kang Daniel is currently one of the most talked-about idols in the Kpop scene for his lawsuit against Genie Music. The idol appealed a damages lawsuit worth more than $510,000 over a shortfall in concert revenue.

On August 21 KST, the Seoul High Court’s Civil Division 13 ruled in favor of Kang Daniel, overturning the lower court’s decision in the appeals trial of a lawsuit filed by Genie Music against Kang Daniel and his then-agency KONNECT Entertainment over damages of more than $510,000 USD.

Almost four years after the incident, the Kpop scene is talking about it, even more with Kang Daniel’s appeal. Despite Genie Music filing the damages suit, arguing that the contractual obligations had not been fulfilled. The first trial held the former agency responsible for shortcomings in promotion and planning, determining that it was liable for about USD 290,000 in damages.

It turns out that Kang Daniel l had faithfully fulfilled his contractual performance obligations and found it difficult to hold him personally responsible. Ultimately, the idol is walking free of the legal battle with Genie Music, and ready to start a brand new chapter of his artistry.
