Dwayne Johnson has some thrilling news for Disney fans! The Rock took to Instagram on July 5 to announce updates on the highly-anticipated Moana live-action movie. The actor will reprise his beloved role as the demigod Maui, who he voiced in the 2016 movie hit and 2024’s Moana 2.

In his post, The Rock revealed that production kicks off this August and the film is set for a July 10, 2026 release. But surprises don’t end there! In his photo, fans can see the headshots of the cast next to their animated counterparts.

“Exciting and inspiring casting news as we begin to bring together our live-action MOANA family,”

Breakthrough star Catherine Laga’aia will play Moana, John Tui will take on the role of Moana’s father, Chief Tui. Frankie Adams is set to play Moana’s mom, Sina, while Rena Owen will portray her grandmother, Gramma Tala.

The actor finished his exciting update with a nod to his popular character, Maui, writing “And yours truly, as the demigod ~ MAUI.” Now, stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget to go watch Moana 2 on November 27th.
