Recent reports announce Bad Bunny to star in the historical drama ‘PORTO RICO,’ directed by Residente, making history for their nation and their career, going beyond the music to tell their truth.

According to Deadline reports, Benito Martínez Ocasio is stepping into his first leading film role in ‘PORTO RICO,’ a Caribbean western and historical drama about Puerto Rico, alongside the renowned René Pérez Joglar, making his directorial debut.

The main cast of this movie will also include the American actors Viggo Mortensen and Edward Norton and the Spanish Javier Bardem, and as executive producer, the Mexican Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Residente describes the movie as:

“This film is a reaffirmation of who we are—told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”

This production will be based on the life of Puerto Rican revolutionary José Maldonado Román, known as Águila Blanca, who fought against colonialism by leading a gang of ex-convicts to vindicate his nation in its search for its identity as a country.

Although it is still unknown if the movie will follow the original storyline above, René said the movie starring Bad Bunny will “blend historical scope with a visceral, lyrical approach and a gripping narrative inspired by true events.”
