A24 has released a new trailer for Backrooms, the upcoming horror film directed by Kane Parsons, creator of the YouTube web series The Backrooms. The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark, a furniture store owner who discovers a gateway to the Backrooms inside his building. Following his disappearance into the gateway, his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline, played by Renate Reinsve, enters the enigmatic space to try and find him.

The trailer shows poolrooms and other unsettling liminal spaces as several characters explore the Backrooms simultaneously. It also showcases the project’s mix of traditional filming and found footage. The sneak-peek shows Clark asking people he knows to help him investigate, as Mary appears to be searching for him from another angle. The trailer confirms that both characters will enter the Backrooms during the story, adding more tension to the mystery.

The new preview suggests the movie will bring the online horror concept to a wider audience while conserving most of its signature elements. Also, the cast includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia. At the moment, A24 has not confirmed how closely the movie connects to the web series, although the movie seems to have adapted the core attributes of the original material. Meanwhile, Backrooms is set for theatrical release on May 29, 2026.
