BTS’ Suga‘s discharge from the South Korean military faced several obstacles from BigHit Music and HYBE, including the impossibility of fans being able to attend the discharge site. Ultimately, K-Netizens were split, and Suga had to release a short statement to clear the air.
Several rumors are pointing to Suga’s DUI incident last year completely ruining his discharge celebration from the military. The idol even disappeared from the scene for months, and only reappeared at J-Hope’s solo concert, “HOPE ON THE STAGE.”
On June 21 KST, BTS’ Suga greeted fans with a lengthy post on Weverse, to relay his thoughts on his official discharge from the mandatory service. The idol even reflected on the incident from last year, and he still feels remorseful about what happened last year.
“I think I spent these past 2 years reflecting on myself as a person.
It also occurred to me that I needed to take a step back from this line of work that I am so used to being in and spend some time outside of that space.
Because I ran so hard while only looking ahead, I did not have a moment to stop and look back at myself. Through this time that was given to me, I was able to finally look back.
ARMYs, thank you again and again for waiting.
And I’m sorry for disappointing you and making you worry over what happened last year.
More than anything, what upset me most was that I hurt my fans.
I was also sorry toward my members, who were undoubtedly burdened in their respective positions because of what I had done.”
