After nearly eight years together, Dakota Johnson and Coldplay’s Chris Martin have reportedly split—again. But this time, sources say it’s for good. According to PEOPLE, multiple insiders have confirmed the breakup, and while reps for the stars haven’t spoken out, the silence might say it all: “It feels final this time,” one source shared.
The actress and the Coldplay frontman first started dating in 2017 and mostly kept things under the radar. Rumors of an engagement started swirling in 2020, and by early 2024, insiders told PEOPLE that they’d actually been engaged for “years.” Despite being in no rush to get married, they remained close, appearing together in India this January and again in Malibu on May 16, just two weeks before news of the breakup came to light.

The couple reportedly hit rough patches in the past. A rep denied breakup rumors as recently as August 2024, and friends had said the pair was “balancing things the best they can.” Most recently, Dakota shared in a June 4 interview with the Los Angeles Times that she’s not here for outdated relationship rules. “Why do people have to get married at a certain age or only once?” she asked. “It doesn’t matter.”
Dakota has been vocal about her love for Chris’ kids with Gwyneth Paltrow, saying she adores Apple and Moses “like my life depends on it.” While it’s unclear what comes next, she’s diving into work, as her film Materialists hits theaters June 13. As for Chris, he’s touring the world with his band in the Music of the Spheres World Tour, currently visiting the United States.
