King Charles III has just kicked off his activities in Canada by giving a rare speech to the Canadian parliament amid the tensions between the United States and Canada. For better or worse, the King stood out and made tens of headlines worldwide.
On May 27, King Charles III, who serves as Canada’s head of state, made his first trip to Canada as king and became the first monarch since 1957 to preside over the opening of a new Canadian parliament. The opening was attended by Indigenous leaders, dignitaries, and legislators.
Then, the King addressed the difficult times and challenges that Canada is currently facing, without mentioning Donald Trump’s recent threats to make Canada the 51st state of the United States. However, his strong message was very clear.
“The True North is indeed strong and free. Canadians can give themselves far more than any foreign power on any continent can ever take away.”
