Red Velvet fans are having a shocking moment after SM Entertainment announced that Wendy and Yeri’s contracts had ended. The news arrived nearly a decade after their debut, marking a closing chapter. Despite this decision, both idols will continue as part of Red Velvet, though their solo projects will be carried out outside the company. This leaves the remaining three members who renewed their contracts— Seulgi in August 2023, Irene in February 2024, and Joy in January 2025— as part of SM Entertainment for their solo endeavors.

Wendy burst onto the scene on August 1, 2014, when Red Velvet debuted with the catchy single “Happiness.” Meanwhile, Yeri officially joined the girl group on March 17, 2015, during the “Ice Cream Cake” era. The last song Red Velvet dropped with all members under SM Entertaiment was the dramatic dance-pop track “Cosmic.” Upon its release, the song was celebrated for its elegant production, sweet melodies, and most importantly, its massive bridge, which has garnered praise from both Red Velvet fans and other K-pop stans.
