With the end of 2022 getting closed by the minute (literally), and the last quarter of the year already running, we have now less than 3 months to say our goodbyes to this chaotic, challenging, and unforgettable year, so we can hop into the 2023 with better expectations. While we are busy working on the decorations for the Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas holidays, we can also start wondering about all the changes that will happen during the coming year.
That’s in general terms, but when it comes to K-Pop, 2023 will not only mean a lot of changes, but also means that a lot of groups will have their contracts expired, some other will renew their contracts, or at least we hope they do.
It’s definitely a challenging time for all the members of a group, if they renew their contract, they will be able to continue promoting new music with the record label they are working for alongside the rest of the members who also renew their contract, otherwise, they can decide to not renew the contract, part ways with the rest of the members, and continue their careers as soloists, or if they want to, they can also just stop their activities, which is not that common to be honest.
Let’s take a look at some of the groups that will have their contracts ended and will have to face the life changing decision.
C
ASTRO
It’s been 7 years since their debut, and some of the members have had some sort of success as soloists, so it’s not certain if all the six members want to renew their contract.
BLACKPINK
The four girls have had success in their projects on their soloist careers, for example, Jisoo has had a major role in a Korean drama as the main character, while Lisa, Jennie and Rosé had success with their debut soloist songs. However, as a group, they are the current Queens of the K-Pop industry, both local and internationally as well. It’s most likely that they will be renewing the contract, but it’s not a 100% chance.
NCT
The number of members that the group has makes the decision a lot more unpredictable, as there are many more chances that one of the members may be getting tired of the Idol life, or they could have the intention to pursue a soloist career.
Other groups facing the decision this coming 2023 will be SF9, VICTON, MOMOLAND, Brave Girls, WJSN and PENTAGON. So, what do you think? Is there any group that you think will most likely disband?
