Although BTS is considered the biggest K-Pop group right now, like all idols, they started out as trainees. Even after debuting in 2013, it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to where they are now.
But did you know that the septet could actually have eight members?
In an interview with VICE Asia magazine, former Big Hit Music trainee Kim Jihoon talked about his experiences with the boys of BTS. In particular, he talked about how difficult it was when the agency revealed that he would not be a part of the group.
At that time, he didn’t want to cry in front of the employees, so he walked away to clear his head:
“It was a park I often visited and I just sat there and let out a sigh. I had trained hard and practiced everyday, sometimes until dawn. Why haven’t I gotten any better?
What is wrong with me? I was going through a slump, my skills were downgrading, so I thought I should just accept it and tell others right before I leave”.
After leaving Big Hit Music, Jihoon explained that he went through a difficult time because his mother had health problems while she was trying to adjust to normal life. But while he explained that the boys were sorry he had to leave, his actions meant more.
While going through this difficult time, Jihoon and RM graduated and it was this moment that he confirmed how much they cared when they came to visit him. He said that while it may seem like a small gesture, it made a big difference during a time when he was at his lowest point.
“It had been weird not seeing the guys that I’d hung out with everyday. To have them show up and to able to talk and eat together rejuvenated me. (simonsezit.com)
[…] Even after getting cut, before they’d debuted as a band, I once snuck back into the dorm with some fried chicken”.
