K-pop group ASTRO is back with Switch On, a mini album dedicated to the summer season in South Korea. It is an album with six songs that has the participation of all its members, whether in writing the lyrics, rap or musical composition.
AROHA, their fanclub, noted the boyband’s comeback by turning them into a trending topic as soon as the video clip for “After Midnight”, the album’s title song, was released. This is a funky pop style theme that invites listeners to enjoy cool summer nights.
“After midnight, under the moonlight. Let go of your worries”, sing the idols in the chorus.
This proposal from Jinjin, Sanha, Eunwoo, Moonbin, MJ, and Rocky recalls the lighthearted and carefree concept that was the group’s personal brand during their early career years. In addition to Jinjin and Rocky’s raps on “After Midnight,” Eunwoo is participating as a co-writer for the first time.
“Our song is released in the middle of a hot season (for Korea), so we wanted to create a melody that people would like to repeat during warmer days” said the vocalist and actor at a press conference.
Moonbin also makes his debut as a lyricist in the credits of the album Switch On. He co-wrote Footprint, the second track on the album.
“When I got the opportunity to write, I was worried; but MJ helped me to have confidence that he would do it well”, declared the interpreter, according to the Hankyung media.
As the boyband makes its six-year debut in August 2021, the idols sought to emphasize the chemistry they have working together.
“We consider the team atmosphere to be one of our strengths. We wanted to show the synergy that results from uniting our individualities” said leader Jinjin.
“We have been together for so long and we share many memories. I think both externally and internally we have grown to become what ASTRO is today”, Rocky added.
