Background and meaning

BLACKPINK’s Rosé has returned with “new trick,” a pop-punk single released on September 18, 2026, alongside a music video shot entirely with Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro. The track turns the emotional pain of heartbreak into a message about fun, chaos, resilience, and refusing to stay down. The track marks Rosé’s first 2025 single, following her solo debut project “Rosie.” The song was written by Rosé, Amy Allen and Andrew Wells, with Wells serving as producer. Allen previously co-wrote Rosé’s viral collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.” Meanwhile, Wells worked with her on “stay a little longer” from her debut album. Lyrically, “new trick” centers on picking yourself up after a romantic disappointment and moving forward.

Fun facts

The new track is also part of Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign, which has been previously led by artists such as Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd. Directed by Dave Meyers, the music video uses expansive outdoor settings and fast-moving scenes to match the song’s chaotic and youthful energy.
